Brand strategy for Halifax small businesses, without the corporate theatre

A small business doesn’t need a 90-page brand book. It needs clear answers: who you serve, why they should pick you, what you say, and how you look saying it. We work those out with you, then turn them into a logo, a visual identity and wording your whole team can use.

Do you need brand strategy?

Probably yes

  • Customers keep comparing you on price alone
  • Your website, van and Instagram look like three different companies
  • You’ve outgrown the name or logo you started with
  • You’re launching something new, or moving into a new market
  • Staff describe the business differently from one another

Probably not yet

  • You just need a business card and a logo this week. See graphic design
  • You’re still testing whether anyone will buy
  • The real problem is that nobody can find you. See SEO

What you receive

The work ends with things you can use, not a presentation that sits in a drawer. Your quote lists exactly which of these are included.

How the process runs

  1. Discovery. A questionnaire and a working session with you. We ask what you sell, who buys it, what they say about you and where you want to be in a few years.
  2. Research. We look at your competitors’ sites, reviews and ads. We read your own reviews and your customers’ language, because they often describe your strengths better than any slogan.
  3. Positioning. We bring you a written proposal on who you’re for and why they should choose you. Words come first, because design decisions are easier once these are settled.
  4. Messaging. Tone of voice, key messages and tagline options, tested against real situations like a homepage and a quote email.
  5. Visual identity. Logo and identity concepts, based on the approved strategy. Two rounds of revisions are standard, unless your quote says otherwise.
  6. Guidelines and handover. Final files, guidelines and a walkthrough with your team.

The questions we help you answer

  • Who’s your best customer, and who’s the wrong one?
  • What would customers miss if you closed tomorrow?
  • What can you claim honestly that your competitors can’t?
  • What do you want to be known for in HRM three years from now?
  • Which words would you never use about your business?

Honest answers matter here. A positioning based on something you can’t deliver falls apart the moment a customer walks in. So we won’t write you claims you can’t back up. Canada’s Competition Bureau also takes false or misleading marketing seriously, as its deceptive marketing guidance explains.

Rolling out your brand

Most small businesses can’t replace everything at once. So we plan the order. Start with what customers see most, usually your Google Business Profile, website and social profiles. Next come vehicles, signs and printed items as they run out. We can handle much of this ourselves:

From $499 + HST

Logo, business cards and flyers, designed to work together. It’s the right start for most small businesses.

Full strategy work is quoted on top of that, because a logo refresh for a sole trader and a rebrand for a multi-location business are different jobs. You get deliverables, revision rounds and timeline in writing after a free call.

Questions about brand strategy

What’s the difference between a brand and a logo?

A logo is a mark. Your brand is what people think and say about you, shaped by your work, your service, your words and your visuals. A logo can support a good reputation, but it can’t create one.

How long does it take?

It depends on scope and how quickly decisions get made. Smaller projects can take a few weeks, and larger ones take longer. We set dates in the quote.

Do we need to rename the business?

Usually not. If a name is causing real confusion, we’ll raise it. Check trademarks and registration with a professional before committing to a new one.

Who owns the final logo?

You do, once the project is paid. You receive the master files. Our service terms explain this in full.

Can you keep part of what we already have?

Yes. If customers recognize your colours or mark, there’s value in evolving them rather than starting from nothing.

Not sure what’s wrong with your brand?

Send us your website and a few lines about your business. We’ll tell you whether you need strategy, a design refresh or neither.
