Email marketing for Halifax businesses, set up the CASL way
Your email list is the one audience no platform can take away. We set up the tool, build sign-up forms that collect consent properly, design the templates, and write and send campaigns that bring customers back. All of it follows Canada’s anti-spam law.
Why email still earns its place
Social reach goes up and down with every algorithm change. Ad costs rise. An email goes to the inbox of someone who already asked to hear from you. For a restaurant, salon, shop or trade, that’s the cheapest repeat business there is.
It works best with something worth sending: a seasonal menu, a booking reminder, a new product, a useful tip. We help you find that rhythm. We won’t flood your list.
The businesses that get the most from email tend to treat it as a habit rather than a campaign, sending a short, useful message at a predictable time each month and letting a few well-built automations handle welcomes, reminders and review requests in the background while the team gets on with serving customers.
What our email marketing service covers
| Part | What we do |
|---|---|
| Platform setup | Mailchimp or a similar tool, connected to your website, shop or booking system. The account is in your name. |
| Sending domain | SPF, DKIM and DMARC records so your emails reach the inbox and aren’t flagged as spoofed. |
| Sign-up forms | Website, checkout and in-store sign-ups with a clear consent statement and records of when and how people joined. |
| Templates | Branded, mobile-friendly templates you can reuse. Our graphic design work keeps them consistent with your brand. |
| Campaigns | We write, design and schedule newsletters and offers, or coach your team to do it. |
| Automations | Welcome series, abandoned cart, post-purchase and review requests. |
| Reporting | Clicks, sales and unsubscribes per campaign. Open rates are shown, but treated with caution because privacy features inflate them. |
We’ve built email programs before, including the Mailchimp newsletters for Ankara Library alongside its blog and social media.
CASL in plain language
Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation applies to any commercial email sent to or from Canada. Getting it wrong is expensive. The Act sets maximum penalties of $1,000,000 for an individual and $10,000,000 for a business, per violation (CASL s. 20(4)). Every commercial email needs three things:
- Consent. Express consent means someone actively opted in. A pre-ticked box doesn’t count. Implied consent exists in narrower cases. Under section 10(10) of the Act, a purchase within the previous two years counts, and so does an inquiry within the previous six months (CASL ss. 10–11). Implied consent expires. We help you convert it into express consent before it does.
- Identification. Your business name and contact details in every message.
- A working unsubscribe. Easy, free, and acted on without delay. The Act’s outer limit is 10 business days.
The Government of Canada’s anti-spam site has the official guidance. We’re not lawyers, and this isn’t legal advice. We do build every form and template so these three requirements are covered by default.
Don’t upload a purchased list. Bought or scraped addresses don’t come with consent. They also damage your sender reputation with Gmail and Outlook. We won’t send to them.
Automations that run while you work
Welcome series
Two or three emails introducing your business to new subscribers, sent automatically when they join.
Abandoned cart
For online shops: a reminder when someone leaves items in the cart. Pairs with our e-commerce websites.
Review request
A short message after a visit or purchase, asking for a Google review. See Google Business Profile.
Win-back
A friendly note to customers who haven’t bought in a while, before their implied consent runs out.
Pricing
Quoted after a free call + HST
The email platform charges its own subscription, usually based on list size. That bill is yours, in your name.
Questions about email marketing
How often should a small business send emails?
Often enough to be remembered, rarely enough to stay welcome. For most local businesses that’s once or twice a month, plus automations.
Can I email customers who bought from me?
Usually yes, under implied consent, for two years after their last purchase. After that you need express consent. Ask for it while you still have the relationship.
Mailchimp or something else?
Mailchimp is fine for most small businesses. Shopify stores may prefer Shopify Email or Klaviyo. We’ll recommend one based on your store, list size and budget.
Can you move my list from another tool?
Yes, including consent records where the old tool kept them. Contacts without proof of consent are kept separate until they opt in.
Have a list you’re not using?
Tell us where your contacts are today. We’ll tell you what you can send legally and what we’d send first.
