Our credentials, including an Advanced drone pilot certificate
Some of our work falls under federal regulation. All of it depends on trust. This page lists the credentials Eski Media holds, what each one actually allows, and how you can check it yourself.
Drone operations
Transport Canada Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations
Our aerial work is flown by founder Caglar Aybas, who holds a Transport Canada Pilot Certificate for Advanced Operations. It isn’t a formality. Getting it means passing Transport Canada’s advanced exam and an in-person flight review.
Transport Canada groups drone flights into categories. Compared with a Basic certificate, the Advanced certificate allows a pilot to fly closer to or over people, in controlled airspace with air traffic control permission, and to operate medium drones, as long as the drone meets the safety requirements for that specific operation. Transport Canada’s category guide sets out the full table.
Why it matters in Halifax: parts of HRM sit in or near controlled airspace, and many jobs involve flying around people, such as streets, job sites, events and waterfront properties. Holding the Advanced certificate means the pilot has passed Transport Canada’s exam and flight review, and knows how to plan those flights properly. We cover the practical side in do you need a licensed drone pilot in Halifax.
Our drone and its registration
We fly a DJI Mini 4 Pro. With its standard battery it weighs under 250 g, so Transport Canada treats it as a microdrone. Microdrones don’t need registration. The rules still apply, though. Controlled airspace still needs NAV CANADA permission. With the larger Plus battery it goes over 250 g. At that weight it must be registered and marked like any small drone. Transport Canada has also proposed registration for microdrones, and we’ll comply once it takes effect.
Airspace authorizations
When a site is in controlled airspace, we request permission from air traffic control before the flight, through NAV CANADA’s process, and we handle that paperwork for you. You don’t have to. Near military aerodromes such as Shearwater, flights need separate permission. That takes longer to arrange.

How to check a provider’s credentials
Whoever you hire, us or anyone else, ask for these before you book:
- The pilot certificate level. Most commercial flights near people or in controlled airspace need Advanced. Pilots must carry the certificate while flying, so they can show it.
- Proof of liability insurance naming the operator, if your brokerage or site owner requires it.
- Whether your location needs an airspace authorization, and who will file it.
- For marketing work, examples you can verify: live websites, named clients and real reviews, not just logos.
Questions about a regulated job?
If you’re not sure whether your site needs an authorization or what paperwork your brokerage will ask for, send us the address and we’ll check before you book anything.
