How Much Does Video Production Cost in Halifax? 2026 Rates by Project Type
Most video quotes in Halifax are useless to compare, because two agencies can send you the same number for wildly different work. One means a half-day with a single operator and a two-day edit. The other means a crew of four, a scripted shoot, and colour grading. Same $3,500.
So instead of a price list, here’s how video is actually priced in this market in 2026, what each tier buys you, and where the money goes.
The ranges, up front:
| Project type | Halifax range, 2026 | Typical scope |
|---|---|---|
| Social content | $500 – $1,500 | Half-day, single operator, several vertical clips |
| Real estate video | $350 – $1,800 | Walkthrough to full cinematic listing campaign |
| Business / service video | $1,500 – $3,500 | One shoot day, interview plus b-roll, 2–3 min |
| Brand film or client story | $3,500 – $15,000 | Multi-day, scripted, multiple locations |
| Editing only | $300 – $2,000 | Your footage, priced by hours of post |
Add 14% HST to all of it. Now the part that explains why the ranges are that wide.
The Three Things That Set the Price
Nearly every quote you’ll receive is a function of:
- Crew days. One person with a camera versus a shooter, an audio operator, and a director. This is usually the biggest single line.
- Edit hours. A 30-second social cut from clean footage might be four hours. A three-minute brand film with graphics, licensed music, colour work and two rounds of revisions is closer to twenty-five.
- Deliverables. One video, or one video plus a 16:9 cut, a vertical cut for Reels, a 15-second teaser and stills? Every additional format is real editing time, not a checkbox.
Everything else (gear, travel around HRM, licensed music, a second location) moves the number less than people expect.
Halifax Video Pricing by Project Type, 2026
Social content: $500 – $1,500
A half-day shoot producing several short vertical videos for Instagram, TikTok or Facebook. Single operator, natural light or a small kit, fast turnaround. This is the highest-ROI tier for most local service businesses and restaurants, because platforms reward volume and consistency more than polish. If you’re posting once a month, a $6,000 brand film won’t help you; twelve of these will.
Business profile or service video: $1,500 – $3,500
One shoot day, on-camera interview or voiceover, b-roll of your team actually working, two to three minutes finished, plus short cuts for social. This is the workhorse video for Halifax trades, clinics, law firms and consultants. It’s the thing that lives on your homepage and does the “why us” work your text can’t.
Real estate video: $350 – $1,800
Wide range because the property drives it. A walkthrough for a Clayton Park condo is not a cinematic campaign for a waterfront property in Chester. Photo-only packages start around $400 locally; add drone and a walkthrough edit and you’re in the $700–$1,200 range; full cinematic treatment for premium listings runs to about $1,800.
Brand film or client story: $3,500 – $15,000
Multi-day, scripted or story-structured, multiple locations, professional audio, sometimes a hired presenter. Remotely-captured testimonials sit near the bottom of this band; docu-style client stories with a real crew sit near the top. National production companies quote $8,500 for a standard client story and $15,000 for cinematic. Halifax rates generally come in under that, but not by as much as people hope.
Editing only: $300 – $2,000
You shot it, we cut it. Priced by hours, not by finished minute. This is genuinely the best value in video if you already have usable footage sitting on a drive, and a lot of businesses do. Our own entry package sits at $79 plus HST for a single short social cut from clips you supply; hourly work above that is quoted on the footage. We run it as a standalone service: video editing in Halifax.
Freelance vs. Agency in This Market
Freelance videographers around Nova Scotia advertise from roughly $140 for basic single-camera coverage up to $2,450 for multi-day work with heavy post. The local average sits near $470 for a straightforward shoot-and-edit.
Freelancers are often the right call for a one-off. Where it breaks down is continuity — if you need content quarterly, matched look across videos, and someone who remembers your brand guidelines a year later, the coordination cost of rebooking a different freelancer each time eventually exceeds the savings. Neither answer is universally correct. It depends on whether video is a project for you or an ongoing channel.
Costs That Don’t Appear in the Quote
Ask about these before you sign, because they’re the usual source of awkward invoices:
- Revisions. How many rounds are included, and what counts as a round? “Change the music, recut the middle, and use a different opening shot” is not one revision in most shops.
- Music licensing. Stock library tracks are usually covered. A recognizable song is not, and the licensing costs more than the entire video.
- Raw footage. Many producers don’t hand over raw files by default, or charge for the drive. Decide whether you care now, not in two years when you want a recut.
- Usage rights. Web and social use is standard. Paid advertising and broadcast sometimes aren’t.
- HST. Nova Scotia’s HST dropped to 14% on April 1, 2025. On a $5,000 production that’s $700 you need in the budget.
How Much Should You Actually Spend?
An honest way to size it: what’s one customer worth to you, and how many would this video need to bring in to pay for itself?
A Halifax roofing contractor whose average job is $9,000 needs one job from a $2,500 video. That math is easy. A café with a $14 average ticket needs a very different kind of video — high-volume social content, not a brand film — and should spend accordingly. The mistake we see most often isn’t spending too little. It’s spending a mid-size budget on the wrong format entirely.
Before You Book Anyone
Watch full videos in their portfolio, not the sizzle reel. A 45-second cut of everyone’s best three seconds tells you nothing about whether they can hold attention for two minutes or record clean audio in a noisy room. Ours are on the portfolio page in full.
If you have a project in mind and want a real number rather than a range, tell us what it’s for and where it’s going. We’ll scope it and quote it — and if a $700 social package would serve you better than a $4,000 production, we’ll say that. Start here, or read more about how we run video shoots in Halifax.
